“I have lost control over everything, even the places in my head.” - Paula Hawkins, The Girl on the Train

Title: The Girl on the Train
Author: Paula Hawkins
Published: 2015
Publisher: RIverhead Books
The trailers for the movie based on this book caught my attention so I decided to borrow it from the library and check it out. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about it, but here's my take:
Rachel, an alcoholic and unbalanced divorcee gets herself embroiled in a missing persons investigation. The investigation consumes her as she tries to piece together the lives of people she only knew through her daily passes by their home on the commuter train.
I was determined to finish this book and may have forced myself through it in the bath. To me, the characters were all rather unlikeable. I love flawed and well-rounded characters, but selfish and self absorbed whiners are not my favorite. I actually had a lot of the same feelings reading this that I had with Gone Girl. Is it possible that I'm just not meant to read suspense thrillers?
The end of the book was exciting and exhilarating, but I'm not sure it was worth reading through the chapters leading up to it. I didn't hate it, but it's not a personal recommendation.
Rating: 2 Stars (it was OK)
