"A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts." - Joss Whedon
Sorry I've been a little incommunicado lately. It's been a big, busy summer. With graduating, fasting, getting a job, preparing a classroom, and apartment hunting all at the same time, I've been a bit overextended. But this weekend I got a break from it all, escaped the crush of reality and headed to San Diego for the International Comic Convention! So excited to knock this off my official bucket list!
My next few posts will be about my experiences at SDCC as well as some advice/tips for doing it yourself or simply visiting San Diego. This post I'll simply recount quickly what I did and share some pictures from the festivities. Let's call it a photo journal.
First off, the entire city is decked out in SDCC gear. Buildings, restaurants, hotels, and yes, the airport.

The convention (and the stuff outside it) pretty much consist of waiting in lines. I decided that "what is this line for?" should be the SDCC motto. Sometimes, just get in a random line and see where it takes you..

But at the end of the line there are amazing things. You can meet an author or celebrity you admire and maybe get an autograph or picture...

and watch inspiring, interesting, or downright hilarious panels and performances (pictured below: James D'Arcy and Hayley Atwell from Marvel's Agent Carter)...

Outside of the convention itself there are so many activities. You can attend panels like this, with the cast/creator of Doctor Who and moderated by Nathan Fillion. (at NerdHQ courtesy of TheNerdMachine)

or pretend to be Chris Pratt wrangling raptors while demo-ing video games, playing laser tag, and getting free swag at the Petco Park Conival (courtesy of the Nerdist)...

You're surrounded by people who are fun and passionate about things and express it in all different ways.

and, of course, you get a ton of free swag to take home as gifts (for yourself or others).
