After running Dorothy and her goons out of the Emerald City, Amy Gumm continues to explore her growing powers while magic slowly returns to Oz. In this installment of the series we see a lot more of Oz as Amy goes on an adventure to find the rest of the Wicked and save her crush.

Again, I read the book more to see where it was going, than because I was truly loving it. I think I enjoyed this book more simply because it was faster-paced and we met a lot more characters along the way. There was more character development in the side characters and a good symmetry developed between Amy and Dorothy. I think part of what prevents me from truly enjoying the series is Amy. I find her to be slow on picking up on things and oftentimes want to smack her and shake her. She consistently makes questionable decisions that make things worse, but she does take responsibility for them and continues to be more and more brave.

I guess the question at the heart of this series is: what is 'home' to Amy? If she never felt home in Kansas, and she's not home in Oz, then where does she belong? And THAT question is what I'm curious to see answered.
