This book came in the June OwlCrate box and I was so so excited as soon as I read the synopsis. It is basically Princess Diaries meets Lady Jane (1986 film). This book takes the story of Lady Jane Grey, queen for 9 days, and gives it a twist and throws in a handful of pixie dust.
The story follows three points of view and is written by three authors. I say this because I know many people had some trepidations about this, but it was seamlessly done. I rather enjoyed the tone and voice of the book. The narrators broke the fourth wall a few times and made some really great pop culture and literary references (included Princess Bride and Game of Thrones).
I'm an avid and obsessed British Monarchical History lover and I already knew quite a bit about Lady Jane and her surrounding history. My only complaint was that the authors followed along with a lot of the commonly accepted perceptions of certain historical figures: Elizabeth Tudor the angel and Mary Tudor the villain as well as misrepresenting the "love" marriage of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII. This is completely incidental to the story and not at all important, but I'm a nerd and I wanted to point it out.
Regardless, I really loved this book and read it in under a day. I highly recommend for the humor and the sweet love stories. I feel like I can really relate to the Lady Jane portrayed in this book. READ IT!
