“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.” - George Orwell, 1984

The April OwlCrate has arrived! This one was a part of my birthday present from my dad. I'm pretty excited about it! At first I was hesitant to select this one because I was afraid it would be loaded with some of my not-favorite recent dystopian YA <<cough>> Mazerunner <<cough>> Divergent <<cough>> but I had hope that there might be some classic love in there too, a la The Giver or Brave New World.

April OwlCrate Contents:

Property of WCKED decal

Mockingjay Magnet

Shatter Me coaster

Mockingjay Bracelet

1984 notebook

Flawed by Cecelia Ahern

I'll start with the decal. The decal is quite cool and if you check out ShaileyAnnDesigns you'll find a lot really amazing stuff (I currently have 8 different things in my cart). As you know, I'm not a huge fan of the Mazerunner series. I won't even say it's poorly written, because it's not. I just find the whole thing frustrating. I don't want to read the same book over and over in different settings with slightly different supporting-crews. This is how I felt reading the first 3 books of the series, at which point I just stopped. This isn't a book review, Nada, shut up!

The magnet is one of 2 different Hunger Games designs that were designed by HalfBloodPrints. It's pretty cool and will make its way onto my fridge to watch and judge me as I pig out each evening. The coaster is beautiful. It's soft and pretty, and since I haven't read Shatter Me, I wasn't aware it was related to the book. I just thought it was a nice quote. Shatter Me has been on my TBR for a bit, so I'll need to get on that. It was designed by EvieBookish who also has some great other stuff!

The Mockingjay bracelet is totally badass and I love it. My only complaint would be that the packaging bent and creased the bracelet in a way I don't love. That's a packaging, not manufacturing issue. It's times like this that I wish I had wrists that worked with bracelets. Not stupid tiny baby wrists. Oh Well. Check out The Geeky Cauldron for more stuff like this!

Here's what I was excited about: the old school dystopian I've been waiting for: the original artwork 1984 by George Orwell notebook. 'nuff said.

And, as always, keep an eye out for my review of the book Flawed by Cecelia Ahern in the next few months.
