First, let me complain. I was meant to meet VE Schwab and get my book signed by her when she was in Virginia recently. Instead, I contracted the flu and spent that evening on the couch in a stupor. Just felt the need to share that...Now to the book

This book is my book club's pick for the month. Since we all read the first one and were planning to read this one as well, it seemed like an easy choice to make.

I liked A Darker Shade of Magic. I loved the concept of parallel worlds where everything is different except one intersecting point that exists in all 4: London. The characters were set up perfectly, they meet and compliment each other well. This book was technically perfect. But I liked it. I didn't love it.

This book was different. It had pirates. I love pirates. It was written primarily from Delilah's perspective, but also peppered in Kell and Rhy. The conflict between Kell and the royals was enough to make me tense, while I thrilled in seeing Lilah find her place among a group of characters as unsavory as she was. I enjoyed this book. There were still points where it seemed to move too slowly or dwell too much on the same things (we get it, your joined).

The kicker here is that Schwab threw in a cliffhanger. The entire story built up to a really good climax, and just when things were getting amazing, the book ended. It was a genius move. While I didn't even know that Darker Shade had a sequel, I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
