"No heart can ever be truly understood. Not even your own." - Victoria Aveyard, Glass Sword

Book: Glass Sword
Author: Victoria Aveyard
Publisher: Harper Collins, 2016
Rating: 4 Stars
I got to meet Victoria Aveyard in February at a book signing in Maryland, courtesy of Politics & Prose bookstore and coffee house. She was so poised and nice and handled one particularly uncomfortable moment like a rockstar! (it also put my life in a bit of perspective since we're the same age).
Glass Sword is the second installment in the Red Queen series. I reviewed the Red Queen last year and found that it was a good book, though not a great one. It was interesting and there were some elements of a great book, but there was so much borrowed and inspired by other literature that it didn't feel particularly original.
I can happily say that I do not feel that way about Glass Sword. Glass Sword is a great book. Mare continues to struggle and grow in a relatable and non-irritating way. The book takes on social issues that feel very realistic for a post-post-apocalyptic, post-xmen world. The writing style has also grown and improved since Aveyard's first book. I was quite pleased with Glass Sword and can't wait for the next installment.
Maybe Mare can try to get caught in fewer traps in book 3.
