"No one in the world gets what they want and that is beautiful." - Ernst Cline

This book was such an interesting concept. I'd definitely never read anything like it. It's set in a future where we've used up most of our resources and rely heavily on virtual reality (uncomfortably realistic). When the owner of the virtual reality company that everyone works, plays, and learns in dies, he creates the biggest scavenger hunt ever. The winner inherits his company and a WHOLE LOT of power.

The story follows a young kid trying to complete the scavenger hunt. The book is definitely a great commentary on humanity and the direction we're going. It seems to idolize the past (especially the 80s).

I'd recommend this book to gamers mostly. I enjoyed it, but if I didn't have a lot of past experience with video games the entire book would be a little too abstract for me. There are also long sequences describing players actually playing games thatI may or may not have begun to skip through in the book. I like the overall story and concept but the nitty gritty gaming detail in the book is definitely a barrier to entry for some readers.

3.5 Stars.
