"A slow sort of country!" said the Queen. "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have started my new job. I am a second grade teacher in a Maryland school. The majority (12/15) of my students speak English as a second language. It has been remarkably challenging so far. Being a new teacher at a school you don't always know what you don't know. You face new things and only then do you realize you should have asked about the process of how to handle it beforehand.

I have spent two weeks playing the worst game of catch-up. There's a stress that accompanies working really hard and planning extensively and then not having a clue what you're going to do that day. Everyone tells me to keep a journal of my first year teaching experience, but truthfully, I've never been much for journaling. This blog serves as my journal. So as I continue on this challenging and rewarding journey, I will share my experiences, challenges, and funny stories.

Here's to a year I may survive...

(by the way, it has been very hard to read new books lately. Most of my reading looks like this)
