Eating your way through San Diego

Being a food lover, I would be remiss if I went on a trip and failed to share the culinary experiences in that place. Here's a quick rundown of where/what I ate during the trip as well as tips on how to eat your way through ComicCon.

Sushi Deli 2

I can't rave enough about this place. They don't take reservations, but because of the convention I was already in line-waiting mode so this restaurant was well worth the wait. I got SO MUCH food for a small price and the food was truly incredible. I'd highly recommend the San Diego roll and the Hawaiian roll.

The Donut Bar

This place came highly recommended from other blogs and yelp. It's worth it. The specialty gourmet donuts are as big as your face and taste amazing. They've even got some comic con-themed ones. I got a Maple Bourbon and a Girl Scout Samoa. Yes, I ate the whole thing. No, I didn't feel sick after. Interesting.

Mariscos El Pulpo

I couldn't come to San Diego and not grab some fish tacos. This place is a small hole-in-the-wall type bar with a small but appetizing menu. They've got everything from fish and shrimp to octopus. And they start at $2.50 a taco!

Breakfast & Brunch Menus

There are tons of places to grab breakfast while you're at the convention. If you're not queueing up early to get into a room, then it's totally worth it to head to gaslamp restaurant and grab a wholesome meal to get you through the day. The exhibit hall and other areas didn't open until 8:30, so there was plenty of time to grab a tasy, inexpensive meal and still make it to the convention center before opening. Personally, I got some breakfast tacos at Rockin' Baja and a breakfast scramble at UNION Kitchen & Tap.

Chocolat (gelato)

Naturally, after spending several days in the gorgeous sunshine I craved something cool and sweet. I opted to head for this shop even though they were giving out some samples around comic con. I ordered myself a lemon gelato and enjoyed it while people-watching on the street.

Gaslamp Pizza

Gaslamp is San Diego's historic district. It's located directly across the street from the convention center. This hole-in-the-wall's location makes it ideal for a quick, inexpensive bite to eat outside of the the SDCC festivities.

Bring your own snacks

I packed some granola bars, candies, water, and goldfish crackers to take with me on the trip. This turned out to be a great idea, since I ended up eating just barely 2 meals a day during the convention. I wasn't always into the options served at the convention center and sometimes I didn't want to leave a line or room to get food.
