StartFragment“Outliers are those who have been given opportunities - and who have had the strength and presence of mind to seize them…To build a better world we need to replace the patchwork of lucky breaks and arbitrary advantages that today determine success - the fortunate birth dates and the happy accidents of history - with a society that provides opportunities for all” - Malcolm GladwellEndFragment

As a part of my Capstone course, which finishes up my Master's degree, I read the book Outliers: a Story of Success. This book is beyond fascinating. In it, Gladwell talks about all of the factors that lead to success that people often overlook.

He disects the success stories of people we normally assume got to where they are with hard work and innate talent. Instead, he argues, success is an accumulation of advantages that, once we understand them, can be extended to all people.

In his usual style, most of the book is anecdotal. This definitely draw you in, but at the same time, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Overall, I really recommend it. It helped me see my job as an educator in a whole new light.
